About Me

I’m Dr. Alison Koontz, a research scientist, freelance science writer and educator based in the Greater Los Angeles area.

I received my PhD in Biology from Caltech in 2021 for the research I did in the lab of Dr. Marianne Bronner in developmental biology, neuroscience, and stem cell biology.

I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow and part-time lecturer in the Biology department at California State University at Northridge (CSUN) working with Dr. Maria Elena de Bellard on nociception in elasmobranchs.

I’ve written content on a range of scientific areas, including biology, physics, environment, and neuroscience. I have published both advanced material intended for a scientifically literate audience and more accessible material for non-scientists.
